The Zr_(59)Ti_3Cu_(20)Al_(10)Ni_8 bulk metallic glass has been studied regarding the effect of surface finishing states on its anodic behavior in 0.01 M Na_2SO_4 (pH=7) without / with 0.01 M NaCl. The anodic response of the alloy ground to grid 4000 depends on the pre-immersion time at OCP during which the surface gradually passivates. Fine polishing with diamond suspension does not significantly alter the passivation properties. But fine polishing with SiO_2-based suspension may cause similar as 1% HF etching a Cu enrichment at the alloy surface leading to an enhanced active dissolution. Fine polishing increases the pitting susceptibility.
