Pipe-soil interaction of steel catenary riser in touchdown zone has complex nonlinear dynamic characteristic, is difficult both in theoretical calculation and in numerical analysis. Meanwhile, pipe-soil interaction model experiment can promote the theoretical and numerical study on the issue well;;experimental results can be used to guide the practical engineering design. This paper reviews the achievements of existing model experiment research, and proposes aspects which further research could focus on, then presents a pipe-soil interaction experiment program, develops test devices and achieves better test result. Therefore, these devices can play a key role in further research on the pipe-soil interaction in touchdown zone.
