START-UP OF NEW GENERATION SY350/SY400 POT

SAMI has designed a number of SY350/SY400 potlines in China in the last 6 years. One of them is the CHALCO Lanzhou branch smelter. Two out of three sections of the SY350 potline at Lanzhou smelter were started up in mid-2007, with the remaining section a year later using an improved start-up method. Several more SY350/SY400 potlines will start-up before the end of this year. This paper will introduce the pre-heat and start-up method used at Lanzhou smelter, which will also be used to start up other SY350/400 potlines.
