A method based on stochastic differential equation is developed to perform risk as-sessment of a dam that consists of two special tunnels for emergency flood release. After ana-lyzing the sensitivity of computational conditions on discharge risk, the requirement for using two emergency tunnels in this project and their discharge risk are discussed. The results pro-vide scientific bases for making decision on emergency tunnel design plan. Further analyses of the results show that the risk level of emergency tunnel plan can be kept the same as that of the original design plan. Therefore, risk assessment demonstrates that the emergency tun-nel plan is technically feasible.
