The issues that face the mine operator trying to push into that multiple millions of tonnes per day of material movement are largely logistic in nature. A throughput of 4 - 5 Mtpd can be delivered out of a mine by trucks, but only when the pit can support at least three "permanent" exit ramps. Entry, departure and merging lanes on roadways are required for those high volume haul roads to operate effectively. If pit configurations don't allow three exit ramps, traffic density might preclude the truck operation and then conveyors could be employed to transport material out of the pit. Conveyors don't necessarily need ramps, they can use ore-passes and tunnels outside the pit shell.
