Energy Efficient protocol for Resource Discovery is one of the most important issues in wireless ad hoc networks. Contact-based is one of efficient protocol for resource discovery in wireless ad-hoc networks. In this protocol, the requests are forwarded to only a small number of selected nodes out of the zone, called contacts. Contact selection methods aim to reduce zone-overlap and to elect useful contacts. This paper provides an overview of Edge Method (EM) and Probabilistic Edge Method (PEM) and proposes a new method to contact selection. PEM is proposed for energy efficient contact selection by reducing randomly the request size. I propose a new method based on PEM to contact selection, called Weighted Edge Method (WEM). In this method, each border node has a weight and request size reduction act is based on weight of nodes instead of random reduction. I studied the rate of energy consumption and zone-overlap on the new method and previous methods. My simulation and modeling results on different network size shows that the WEM is more effective than previous methods.
