摘要

The safe life of ammunition is often limited by propellant ageing.The decomposition of double base propellants starts with the homolytic breaking of the O-NO2 bond of the aliphatic nitrate esters at ambient temperature and even more at elevated temperatures.In this paper, the life-time predictions accordance to STANAG 4556 methodology by the expression for the amount of gases evolved from the sample was proposed.In addition, the safe life determination was consistent in comparison with the thermal activity monitoring (TAM) according to STANAG 4582.Finally stabilizer depletion before and after aging at 65.5 °C for 60 days according to STANAG 4117 was determined.
