The lifetime of a sensor node depends on its energy consumption. In order to achieve efficient use of the energy and extend the network's lifetime, this paper discusses the routing algorithm, focusing on the algorithm of SPIN. In the light of the problem of “blindly forward” and “data unaccessible” in SPIN, a new routing algorithm called SPIN-I is proposed, and we simulate it from two aspects with NS2: the energy consumption of nodes and number of alive nodes. The simulation results show that not only the problems of blindly forwarding and data accessibility in SPIN have been solved, but also the whole network's energy consumption is more uniform. In return, this can prolong the network's lifetime.
