Measurement methods for indoor pollutants to manage indoor air quality

Since we spend most of time indoors, indoor air quality affects our health directly and seriously. To manage indoor air quality, it is necessarily to grasp concentrations and spatial distribution of pollutants. The primary problem of measuring indoor pollutants is a noise of sampling pump. To solve the problem, a passive sampling technique is useful for gaseous pollutants. Several passive sampler for VOC, aldehyde, NO_x or ozone can be available commercially. Passive samplers are so small, light, cheap, noiseless and silent that we can use them in indoor environment, and that we can use them simultaneously. We have reported that spatial distributions of pollutants can be gotten by using passive sampling methods1). In this study, we apply this technique to investigate indoor spatial distributions of pollutants. Fig. 1 shows passive samplers for VOC or aldehyde.
