Carbonaceous materials and, in particular, well-defined carbon nanoparticles are a matter of great fundamental and practical interest. While methods of carbon nanoparticle formation such as chemical vapor deposition have recently shown enormous strength, efforts are still necessary for more selective and tunable methods which might also provide access to unprecedented carbon nanostructures. Toward that end we would like to introduce a thermal chemical approach: "precursor-controlled thermolysis" towards structurely-defined carbonaceous nanomaterials.
