摘要

Due to exceptional properties, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted great attention in numerous disciplines of science and development of new technologies. However, hydrophobic surface of CNTs hinder their dispersion in aqueous solutions. Functionalization of nanotubes with hydrophilic functional groups (e.g. carboxylic groups) improves their interaction with solvent matrices and enhances their abilities to be used in different applications such as biological systems. Furthermore, these functional groups may be used as primary sites for replacement of hydroxyl groups with other functional groups such as amine and thiol which are proper linkers to be attached to various biomolecules [1].
