Sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) accounts for a large amount of consumption in surface active agent used in China,which draws an increasing attention considering its potential risk to aquatic ecosystem.It was known that fish can be used as bioindicator to reflect the water quality by monitoring its swimming behavior.In this study,the toxic effect of SDBS was monitored with three small fresh water fish,i.e.red zebra,Japanese medaka and red carp using 3D-biosensor equipment developed by Seiko Electric Co.Ltd.,Japan.The changes of fish swimming speed and swimming position were recorded and analyzed when exposed to different concentration of SDBS.These three fish species showed almost similar changes in swimming pattern after exposure.It seems that the biosensor and the fish species used in this study have a good application prospect in pre-warning of the water quality.
