Multimodality oncologic treatment plans include assessment for distant and regional metastasis as an integral component of the treatment plan. Thorough lymph node assessment complies with TNM (tumor, node, metastasis) recommendations for the staging of neoplastic disease. Staging procedures that affect the treatment plan include thoracic radiographs, incisional biopsy of the neoplasm, advanced imaging (CT and /or MR) of the neoplasm, and excisional biopsy of regional lymph nodes.
