Surgical infection associated with external fixation in horses will be considered in 2 categories; 1) infection of the external fixation pins and pin tracts, and; 2) osteomyelitis associated with the original injury for which external fixation was chosen for treatment. This presentation will consider both, with a focus on pin and pin tract infections and methods to reduce or prevent them.
