Composite materials, with advantage in lightweight and designable material properties, are used first in aeronautical transport industries, and up to now widely in civil application. In this case, the detections and evaluations of the defects in composite plates are of great importance. Based on the efficient non-destructive testing for impact damage, which is the main defect type in composite plates, using guided wave technique performed by aircoupled single sided scan system, the generated acoustical field is modeled in three dimensions with a Finite Element -based method, and furthermore the whole scan process, with changing positions of excitation and reception zones, is reproduced in simulation. By comparing prediction result of the scan with experimental one obtained by air-coupled transducers, the severity of the damage can be evaluated, and consequently an insight into the scattering field can be realized.
