In this paper we studied the operation of a five pumped backward distributed Raman amplifier with two different types of fiber mediums; dispersion shifted fiber and z-fiber. We computed the optimized configuration, the signal power and the equivalent noise figure for two types of transferring fiber mediums. We found that, the dispersion shifted fibers have better noise factor and have more uniform signal power respect to z-fibers; so the fiber parameters have strong effects on the operation of Raman amplifiers.
