The main approaches to assuring the strength and operational reliability of underwater engineering structures are addressed. The paper discusses the procedures for selecting high strength metals, computational methods for analysis of stress-strain state and bearing capacity of shell structures with as-built deviations from regular shape, procedures for certification of pressure hulls by analytical & experimental methods for evaluating potential strength reserves of the examined hulls.
