This paper presents a single carder frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) system designed for underwater acoustic channel with timing error and Doppler effects. Maximum likelihood estimations for robust initial phase error and Doppler shift are derived using training sequence. A hybrid time-frequency domain equalizer is considered for improved performance. The proposed hybrid time-frequency domain equalizer includes two parts: the basic frequency domain equalizer and a single channel adaptive time domain channel DFE. The proposed SC-FDE receivers have been evaluated through field tests in South China Sea. At a distance of 30 km, the uncoded bit error rate (BER) is around 10-3-10-4.
