Since 2000, several new concept underwater vehtcles have been developed in SLA (Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences). We try to research and develop new technologies and equipments for exploring ocean. ARV is a kind of new concept underwater vehicle. Recently, we have researched the key technologies related to ARV (Autonomous and Remotely operated Vehicle) and have developed three type of ARV successfully. This paper introduces the concept of ARV, and reviews the research activities of ARV in SLA. Its system configuration and specifications are introduced. The key technologies about ARV are discussed respectively.
