Despite detached low crested breakwaters are frequently employed as measures for beach stabilization, no design tool is nowadays available which reliably predicts the transmissivity of the structures for a wide range of engineering conditions. In this view the paper presents a semi empirical model where the predictive equations have been obtained starting from a crude schematization of the physical processes which govern the wave transmission. The obtained results are encouraging and showed a good agreement with a large ensemble of experimental data.
