Numerical modeling was used to assist the construction activities of the mobile barriers in the Venice inlets. With hydrodynamic and morphological models, the impact of structures on the hydro- and morphodynamics in the inlets was predicted. This paper describes the approach used in the modeling, as well as the set-up and some results. A concise explanation is given of how the tidal boundary conditions were schematized into a representative boundary condition. A recent implementation of a bed composition model, the multi-layer approach, which was applied, is discussed and evaluated. All data used in the study were made available by the Magistrato alle Acque.
