Technoeconomical assessment of potential investments in photovoltaic power plants of 100kWp in Greece according to the new legislation

The aim of the present study is the techno-economic assessment of potential investments in photovoltaic (PV) power plants of 100kWp in Greece according to the new law Ν.3734/28-1-2009. Moreover, the effect of the solar potential, the expected reduction of the PV technology costs and the enforcement of CO_2 emission tax market are investigated. For this purpose, a computational tool developed especially for PV investments has been used and updated to take into account a recent feed-in tariff mechanism included in the Greek legislation for PV power plant installations. Economic index calculations show that, although solar potential plays the essential role in the PV power plant economic performance, the expected future reduction in PV technology costs is a key factor for improving the economic viability of the relevant investments. A relatively small yet important contribution comes from the enforcement of CO_2 emission tax market expected to be established within the next few years.
