A new process to produce iron nuggets at high temperature by direct reduction with basic synthetic iron ore coal briquette or pellet has been introduced, that is called Wcomet process in which the main factors of effecting iron nuggets separating from slag have been researched. When the inner C/O mole ratio of synthetic iron ore coal briquette is more than 1.0, and the basicity more than 1.8, the metal iron reduced from synthetic iron ore coal mixed briquette gathers to form nuggets through high temperature diffusion of iron atom, simultaneously the CaO reacts with the SiO2 to form 2CaO·SiO2 at the reduction temperature more than 1300°C. The reduced products spontaneously dispersed because of the phase transformation of 2CaO·SiO2 during cooling. So the iron nuggets with the size of 5-20mm can be separated from slag powder with the help of screening. re
