There are few high rockfill embankments built in our country. The relative design and construction technologies are inexperienced. To reveal the stress-strain properties of the high rockfill embankment with more than 71m high under self-weight loads and provide the reference for its security evaluation and the treated layer lying reasonably and consultation to construction. By simplifying the high rock fill embankment as the plane strain problem, establishing two-dimensional finite element model, applying SIGMA/W sorft,based on Duncan-chang E-B,the stress-strain character of high rock fill embankment under self-weight loads were analyzed. The results showed that: With the increase of embankment height, the mechanical response presents increasing tendency; the maximum settlement occurred in the top of the embankment’s left side while the maximum horizontal displacement occurred in the top of the embankment’s left side, and both the vertical direction and horizontal direction exist in deformation discrepancy; foundation base have sufficient ability to bear the weight load. From the view of reducing settlement and the differential settlement, the emphasis of compaction quality control in construction should focus on the layer under the embankment’s left side and disposal measures must be taken; the embankment’s right side is the key part for reinforcement design.
