Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) models have been increasingly used in the last years for the numerical simulation of the propagation stage of flow-like landslides and similar phenomena. The paper discusses some recent numerical results and outlines the potential and drawbacks of SPH method. Remarks are proposed about the influence of Digital Terrain Model, the role of pore water pressure, soil rheology and bed entrainment. It is concluded that new frontiers should be addressed for pore water pressure and 3D formulation.
