Wireless networks suffer from significant packet losses due to scarce available bandwidth and high channel error probability. In NASTE (Network-adaptive selection of transport error control) [1], we proposed a network-adaptive error control scheme that selects a suitable error control mode according to the status of channel and application. By adding the adaptation for rate control, in this paper, we propose an extended version of NASTE, denoted as NASTE+ (network-adaptive selection of transport rate/error control) for wireless video streaming. To improve the streaming quality, NASTE+ selectively uses the most appropriate error control to recover packet losses while the video sending rate is adaptively changed to match the time-varying available network bandwidth. We evaluate its transport performance through MPEG-2 video streaming over a real IEEE 802.1 la-based WMN testbed.
