Retrospective analysis of penile erection during circumcision under remifentanil infusion

Background and Goal of Study Penile erection during urologic surgery had rarely been reported in pediatric patients. We wanted to share our experience with children undergoing circumsion anesthetized with sevoflurane and remifentanil who had penile erection intra-operatively. Materials and Methods Three hundred sixty nine children who had circumcision during years 2005-2008 had been included in the analysis. The mean age were 6.6 years (3 months -13 years). Two hundred eighty two (76%)of them had been induced with propofol and 87 (24%) with sevoflurane inhalation. Ninty eight (27%) of them had remifentanil infusion 0.075 - 0.15mic/kg/min and 271 (73%) had fentanyl 3-5mic/kg as analgesia peroperatively. Sevoflurane 0.6-1.5% in N_2O/ O_2 4/2 6 L/min used as maintenance of anesthesia. Penile block had been applied as postoperative analgesia before the operation had started. Patients who had penile erection had been recorded.
