Inks and coatings will go into the furnace and can cause problematic emissions or potentially act as contaminants, especially metals. Different types of aluminum may effect the application of the recycled aluminum or necessitate additional metallurgical processing. Thin foil laminations can be expensive to separate from aluminum and negatively impact the recoverability of aluminum in this application though there are emerging technologies and efforts underway to address the situation.
