Humicola insolens Cutinase (HIC) catalyzed polymerization reactions were investigated to gain insight into the potential of Cutinase from Humicola insolens as a novel catalyst for polymerization reactions. It was found that the immobilized HiC is a powerful catalyst for both polycondensation of diols and diacids and ring opening polymerization reactions of lactones. The optimal activity of immobilized HIC was at 70 °C. The immobilized HiC was inactive for catalysis of L-lactide and (R,S)-β-butyrolactone ROP. HiC-catalyzed ROP of ε-CL in toluene and in bulk and of PDL in toluene was successfully performed giving high molecular weight polymers.
