Hybrid Constant Concentration Control Alternative

Several drinking water treatment ozone systems operate with manual control, but wish to implement automatic control if they could. Systems with manual control typically were constructed several years ago. Recently, plants have implement constant-concentration automatic control, with an option to select constant-gas-flow control. A few plants have implemented constant-range-concentration control. Each of these automatic control strategies has advantages and disadvantages, which will be discussed in the paper. An alternative automatic control option is also described, called "Hybrid Constant Concentration Control". This "hybrid" control strategy combines the advantages of constant-concentration, constant-gas-flow and constant-range-concentration control. The method is applicable for most drinking water treatment ozone facilities, and is currently being implemented at the F.J. Horgan Water Treatment Plant in Toronto, Canada.
