Electrospinning introduces a new level of versatility and a wide group of materials into the mi-cro/nanofiber range. This technology provides a unique potential for tissue engineering and anisotropic reinforcement of elastomers. The contribution highlights the platform technology for manufacturing oriented scaffolds for nerve cell regeneration from polysialic acid. In addition, the potential of polysaccharides, such as chitosane and cellulose derivates is explored for making non-wovens which excert anisotropic reinforcing effects in rubber matrices
