Temperature uniformity on die manifold is crucial for polymer extrusion. Lin, etc.[1] has carried out a numerical study on conjugate heat transfer for extrusion polymer flow under the assumption that the die body surface is in uniform temperature or heat transfer coefficient. In the present paper, we have found out the non-uniform real-world temperature and heat transfer coefficients (including radiation and convection) on die body surface and investigated their effects on manifold wall temperature in coupled with molten polymer flow. Based on that, the effects of shear heating due to highly viscous polymer flow on the manifold wall has been studied for molten polymers of different viscosity. The effects of die body geometry, locations of body and lip heaters, and body surface insulation on the manifold wall temperature are also studied.
