Prototyping consists in the realization of complete control systems via a high speed process, enabling validations on engine or vehicle benches. The evaluation of innovative concepts, work towards robust functional specifications and the anticipation of risks related to their industrialization are all facilitated through rapid prototyping. Reduction development times, increasing complexity of innovative embedded systems and fast evolving technologies are important elements in the choice of a rapid prototyping system. The aim of this presentation is to present the diesel rapid prototyping system, called C3M Diesel. It is a completely open and modular system, developed by PSA Peugeot Citroen in collaboration with dSPACE SARL. It is used to prototype new engine control functionalities, and more particularly to increase the robustness of the functional specifications for the EURO 5 standard. Its modular and evolutionary concept will make it possible to accompany the future innovations and to prepare EURO6. Various aspects will be approached, beginning with a historical background of this type of system at PSA Peugeot Citroen, followed by a description of the material and software constitution of the C3M Diesel.
