Fabrication cost of components remains one of the major issues for the solid oxide fuel cell industry inhibiting wide-spread commercial use of SOFC technology. The primary focus of SOFC development has been in the area technical understanding and performance, with little regard to the process cost necessary to achieve such improvement. Yet for all the stated advantages of fuel cells, such as high efficiency and low emissions, the SOFC will remain unused if the technology and, in particular, the materials cost cannot compete economically with existing power generation technologies.
