The purpose of this research is to determine if experience piloting of manned aircraft will facilitate monitoring and controlling Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) tasks and its interaction with different automation strategies. A 2x2 mixed subjects design was used to understand how pilot experience and level of automation combine to influence UAV mission performance. A multi-modal UAV mission simulator was used as the testbed and thirty subjects were recruited to participate in the study. Study shows that most of the main effects and two way interactions had no significant effect on UAV mission performance, for both primary task and secondary task.
