Evaluation of the new interface of Microsoft Word 2007

Every new edition of software brings their changes, sometimes important and other times almost unnoticeable. The new edition of Microsoft Word 2007 falls within the first category. An obvious change is the replacement of the menus and toolbars by ribbons. To evaluate the new interface, different methods have been used: interviews, usability testing and card sorting. The results from the interviews and usability testing showed that both interfaces are generally equivalent with faster results with MS Word 2003. The card sorting showed that some functions should be regrouped under different ribbons, some ribbons should be renamed and that additional ribbons might be necessary.
