Wire EDM for Metallic Biomaterial Rapid Manufacturing

摘要

Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) process can be used to fabricate metallic biomaterial products of full material density with high accuracy. This paper presents a methodology of using WEDM as a subtractive Rapid Manufacturing (RM) process for metallic biomaterials. The process of using WEDM as a rapid manufacturing technique and associated algorithm and software development to enable the use of WEDM for rapid manufacturing are presented. The algorithms include the tangent visibility analysis for WEDM, fabrication orientation determination, fixture design and Numerical Control (NC) code generation for WEDM.
