Wire EDM for Metallic Biomaterial Rapid Manufacturing

摘要

Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) process can be used to fabricate metallic biomaterial products of fullmaterial density with high accuracy. This paper presents a methodology of using WEDM as a subtractive RapidManufacturing (RM) process for metallic biomaterials. The process of using WEDM as a rapid manufacturingtechnique and associated algorithm and software development to enable the use of WEDM for rapid manufacturingare presented. The algorithms include the tangent visibility analysis for WEDM, fabrication orientationdetermination, fixture design and Numerical Control (NC) code generation for WEDM.
