An Analysis of Causes for Grotto Water Disaster Formation and Major Treatment Principles

As important historical Buddhist sites,Grotto temples have potential regularities in their geographic conditions and locations.Most of the extant grottos in China were built on the mountain slope facing streams.They were more or less affected by water disasters through the long history,which poses a serious threat to the preservation of cultural relics.This paper offers a summarized description of current situations of several grotto water disasters,analyzes causes for their formation,and provides basic principles and measures of prevention and treatment for tackling the disasters from the perspective of geological engineering.It conducted beneficial explorations and researches for effective treatment of grotto water disasters and protection of the precious cultural relics.
