A Systems Approach to Condition Based Maintenance

Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) is part of a multitude of new tools available to the fleet manager, which ultimately improve weapon system utilization and readiness rates, and reduce costs. While readiness goals remain a primary focus for any fleet manager, to achieve them requires significant transformation of present logistics processes. Transformation must occur to capture the full benefits promised by CBM. This paper presents a systems approach to the overall goal of CBM (i.e., improved readiness) that can point both weapons system managers and their supporting Automated Information Systems (AIS) managers, to the requisite changes required to transform logistics in order to achieve the promised goal.
