Vuilleumier (VM) refrigeration cycle is thermal energy driven Strirling refrigeration cycle in nature. Gas driven VM refrigerator has many advantages, such as low requirement for seal, low noise and pollution levels, long life and so on. The performance of gas driven VM refrigerator is not only associated with the geometric configuration and working gas, but also with the working condition. This paper analyzes the performance of gas driven VM refrigerator. Taking the prototype VM heat pump for example, analyze the factors effecting on the performance of gas driven VM refrigerator. The result indicates that the refrigerating performance is improved with higher working pressure. When cold temperature decreases, refrigerating capacity and coefficient both decrease. At some speed of rotation, the refrigerating capacity reaches the maximum and the refrigerating coefficient decreases when the speed of rotation increases. Through experiment, obtain the effect of the three working gas on the performance of the gas driven VM refrigerator.
