Free piston Stirling cooler (FPSC) have the great advantages to develop in fields of refrigerator, medical, biology, science experiment etc. In this paper, a high capacity free piston Stirling cooler (FPSC) was designed to 200K low-temperature fridge firstly. In order to study the prototype, a performance test bench was built. Firstly, the variation of performance parameters during cooling process was studied in detail. Furthermore, the influence relations between the displacement phase shift and the expander natural frequency and its operating frequency were experimentally studied. The static loss of the cooler was tested by multipoint hot load static rewarming method. The helium and the mesh screens are proved to have little affection on the static loss in virtue of thermal conduction. The maximum cooling capacity of the prototype can reach 40W at 200K with 250W input. The research results provide a great help for knowing well the working characteristics of the FPSC and improving its performance.
