The presence of pharmaceuticals and endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) in the environment has been a topic of concern as researchers do not know the extent of risk, if any, these compounds pose to humans. The presence of these compounds in source waters and in drinking waters is particularly problematic as this pathway represents a direct vector for human exposure.
