Catalytic denitrification is a promising alternative to current nitrate remediation methods such as ion exchange, reverse osmosis and biological denitrification. Pd/Cu/Al2O3 catalysts have been widely studied due to their effective reduction of nitrate in aqueous solutions with hydrogen at room temperature, with selectivity to dinitrogen. However, it is not well known how the structure and composition of Pd and Cu on the catalyst surface affects the catalyst activity and selectivity.
