摘要

Multi-component hydrocarbon–water mixtures exhibiting a liquid-liquid miscibility gap are of the utmost importance for the oil and gas industry because of the prevalence of these compounds in many processes. Oil remains a major source of the World’s energy supply, but a large fraction of the oil can remain in the reservoir after application of primary and secondary exploration approaches. Hence, there is significant potential for enhanced oil recovery. Water-based enhance oil recovery (EOR) processes rely on surfactants to decrease the oil-water interfacial tension and to increase the viscosity of the displacing fluid. Hence, knowledge of the phase diagrams of alkane–water–surfactant mixtures is important for improving such EOR processes.
