One Improved Scan Line Seed-filling Algorithm

The traditional scan line seed-filling algorithm has been widely used, however, it is insufficient to accomplish soft filling and UNDO effectively. In this paper, we propose an improved scan line seed-filling algorithm, in which the scan process is independent on whether the fill work is performed on the image or not, and the scanning and filling can be performed synchronously or sequentially. In the sequential case, the boundary information of the filled area can be obtained before the filling operation. Accordingly, the complexity is decreased and the efficiency is improved remarkably for soft filling and UNDO operation. Moreover, while performing the general seed filling operation, the complexity and efficiency are similar to those of the traditional algorithm.
