Improving SCR Efficiency by Eliminating Buildups with a Combination of Air Cannons and Sonic Horns

Industry experts estimate that buildup issues affect as many as 58% of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. This buildup not only occurs in the SCR but also in the duct work leading to the SCR. Buildup in duct work is becoming an increasing important safety issue since in the recent past two years ducts have collapsed in the power industry. This presentation is focused on a new system combining air cannons and sonic horns that will eliminate these buildup problems. Benefits include a reduction of manual cleaning which often can exceed $200,000, a reduction in outage time by elimination of this buildup, improved catalyst life, and improved NOX reduction efficiency. Return on investment will be less than one year, in most cases. This presentation looks at how the combination of sonic horn and air cannon technologies can solve many of the buildup problems experienced in many SCR's and ductwork applications.
