On Herding Artificial Cows: Using Jadex to Coordinate Cowboy Agents

The Cows and Herders scenario of the 2008 Multi-Agent Programming Contest provides a challenging testbed for the coordination of intelligent agents. Our first-time participation in this contest is based on a set of BDI agents which share knowledge and coordinate by a centralized planning guidance to cope with the (possibly) hostile environment. The conceived design has been implemented in the Jadex system which provides an execution environment for BDI-style agents on the basis of a distributed systems middleware.
