In the paper the conditions for the application of magnetic nanoparticles in two medical applications, hyperthermia and drug targeting, are regarded. We found that for hyperthermia monodisperse particles are required to obtain the highest specific heating power. Moreover, it is necessary to select the optimum field amplitude for particles with a given anisotropy field. The optimum choice for drug targeting are multicore particles. In addition, we present improved wet precipitation methods for the preparation of such optimal particles.
