Emergency management is characterized by data-intensiveness,distribution of resources,and cooperative work.Preventing,preparing for,responding to and recovering from natural and human-induced accidents are usually complex geographical-scale problems,which require collecting distributed geographical information and services dynamically,and making spatial decision through collaborative efforts among multiple agencies and task forces.Grid is a promising e-Science infrastructure that facilitates resource sharing and coordinated problem solving in dynamic,multi-institutional virtual organizations.Towards the goal of improving geospatial information sharing and collaboration in urban emergency management,a Grid-enabled geospatial problem-solving architecture is proposed and designed.In this architecture,geospatial information services by integrating OGC Web Services with Grid computing technology is discussed.
